Advocates in favor of moving Lucy, are hoping to see her relocated to the Elephant Sanctuary in Hohenwald, Tennessee. Today I visited the Elephant Sanctuary website and was very impressed with the sheer magnitude of information available, and the beautiful and well designed site.
I encourage our visitors to pop in to their website and browse around. I am sure you will be impressed. One of my favorite pages on the site is the EleCam page – there you can read short and interesting bios on all of the sanctuary’s elephants, and if you’re lucky you can watch them wandering around the grounds.
Again, let me reiterate that I personally am not advocating that Lucy be moved there, as I have no way of knowing if the claims that ‘the stress from the move could be fatal to her’ … however, if she were healthy enough to be moved, this would surely be a piece of heaven for her.
The Elephant Sanctuary also has a YouTube profile that, as of today’s date, currently has 25 videos.
And here is just one of them for your viewing pleasure:

Thanks for sharing these video links with us. This is obviously a very emotional debate for all involved.
I moved a LOT when young, sometimes every few days as a teen so when I bought my house, I knew I was staying put. It has been 19 years and the idea of moving terrifies me. On the other hand, I live in a very humble home with 6 feet ceilings over a spring, leading to an ongoing battle with vermin. Most moves would be an improvement, but I don’t think I could do it, even if I had the funds to do so. Then again, as my health declines, it is becoming more and more difficult to maintain.

Thanks so much for your post, Bean. I also moved a lot as a child, so I can relate to your thoughts here. Your home sounds interesting, and as humble as it may be it is ‘your home’. Hmmm … I’m sensing some parallels here (Bean< ->Lucy) – or was that intentional? (wink)

I avidly watch the webcam at the Elephant Sanctuary on a daily basis. I don’t know which elephant I’m looking at but I think I have figured what area I am seeing. Sometimes I think I see Tarra (she has thick dark hair on her head and back and is dark complected), but I never see Bella, the white dog. Does anyone know why?
Today I read in the Sanctuary News that a new African Elephant, Babe, will be coming to the Sanctuary this year. Very exciting news! She has been crippled by the chains required by a circus and was no longer able to perform. I am very unhappy with circuses for keeping elephants and other wild animals when they know how devasting and unhealthy it is for the animals. Some zoos also do not have proper facilities, for the elephants especially, and need to let them go to the Sanctuary for their well-being. Don’t you think?
Such amazing animals, the elephant!

Thank you for your post, Heidi. I surely do agree with your comments and I appreciate you taking the time to stop by and share your thoughts. I will have to check the webcam more often,as every time I have tuned in the elephants are playing somewhere ‘off camera’ … so lucky they have so much room to roam and do what elephants do!
